Our Program

We are a family owned and operated working ranch.  The focus of our program is producing cattle that have a moderate mature size
but still maintain tremendous growth.

Wheeler Mountain Angus Cattle on short grass and sage pastureWe raise our cattle in a challenging semi-arid
and high-altitude climate. Under these conditions we can isolate the genetics that best capture the efficiency that is required in today's cattle industry.

Our Program

It’s no secret that pounds pay. At Wheeler Mountain Ranch we offer some of the most efficient pound-making cattle found anywhere. Environment serves as the best sorting stick as we range on 40,000 acres of short-grass and sagebrush country at elevations of up to 7,500 ft. In these challenging conditions, we require a mature cow to wean a minimum of 50% of her weight. We have found moderation to be key, as large frame cows struggle weaning 50% and small frame cows generally lack the performance we require. As a result, our bulls are long, thick, easy fleshing and structurally correct. Our program ensures customers the problem free, efficient-gaining, easy calving and powerfully performing cattle they demand.

Angus Bull WMR Timeless 458 Timeless daughter, WMR Eileenmere 049 Accelerated Genetics Logo

AAA# 16226527

Leachman Right Time 338-5605 x WMR Blackcap 521 x WMR Dateline 210
Timeless is a promising young sire currently leased to Accelerated Genetics and co-owned with Harrison Land & Livestock. He was the high-selling bull in our 2009 sale. His numbers continue to strengthen as progeny data is collected. We own his sire and maternal grandsire, making him a prime example of the genetics we strive to produce in our program.

Angus Bull Apex Windy 078 Accelerated Genetics Logo

AAA# 16237970

HARB Windy 702 JH x Apex Lucy 6037 x Apex Mtn Front 044
Our pick at the 2009 Apex sale where we were impressed with his super-thick, wide-based stature. Calving ease coupled with explosive performance has made his calves very popular in the four herds in which he was used. Our Windy bull calves have been well recieved - with this group topping our 2011 sale. If you like thick, well-muscled cattle in a moderate frame you will like 078. Proudly co-owned with Heuchert Angus, Hensel, ND and Apex Angus, Valier, MT.

Angus Bull Leachman Right Time 338-5605

AAA# 15033687

Hyline Right Time 338 x Leachman Erica 1201 x Connealy Frontline
Right Time 5605 captured the attention of Angus breeders across the country as the sire of WMR Timeless 458, one of the most sought after Montana bulls in 2009. 5605 calves are moderate at birth with lots of volume and thickness. He will moderate frame size and improve performance. His sons show promise in high altitude settings as they have had excellent PAP test results. He is proudly co-owned with MR Angus and Leachman Angus.

Angus Bull WMR Dateline 210

AAA# 13733457

Connealy Dateline x WMR Pride 217-168 x Hyline Oscar 168
210’s low birth weights, heavy weaning weights and his excellent daughters make him a very complete sire. 210’s calves have that extra thickness along the top and rear end to make them stand out wherever he is used. With over 100 daughters in production he is also a proven maternal sire.

Angus Bull Connealy Packer 547

AAA# 14843207

Feltons Meat Packer 62 x Bestrelle of Conanga 539 x Dalebanks Extender 6012
We used 547 for the past three years on heifers with no calving problems. His calves are thicker and grow better than most calving ease bulls. His daughters are also proving to be top producers.

Angus Bull SRA 2418 of RR 303

AAA# 14583678

Hero 6267 of RR 2418 x JR Forever Lady 1311 x High Valley 4C6 Ambush
This Hero 2418 son was our choice at the 2004 Treasure Test Sale. The calves are moderate at birth with considerably more growth than his outstanding sire, who is known for his calving ease and excellent females. His EPD’s continue to go up as more progeny data comes in. His first daughters are in production and look outstanding.

We have an annual production sale the fourth Tuesday of every March. At this sale we offer the top cut of our yearling bull crop. The bulls sell fully guaranteed and will be delivered for free within the first 500 miles.
